cohesive, precise, controlled movements yield big gains.
Spartans and pilates share these core values.
spartans were legendary for their commitment to teamwork, to mindset, to achievement and time to realize success. They trusted each other and their leaders.
Pilates is legendary for the same.

discipline breeds mental and physical resilience.

Through the mind-body connection between your musculoskeletal systems, you generate an abdominal-centric armor around your spine and health.
Pilates is renown for the cohesiveness of movement much like the spartans.

What is Pilates?

Joseph H. Pilates created and taught a series of exercises that centered on developing a focused mind and focused breath throughout each movement of each exercise. He called it, "Contrology." He designed these exercises to improve physical abilities across multiple muscle groups, simultaneously, to coordinate balanced development and cooperation of the body and mind in the execution of his exercises. He developed his method over the course of his life, and innovated apparatuses that can adapt to support various levels of practice in various environments. Pilates exercises can and are modified so that people at all levels can improve their balance, flexibility, and overall health.

Who was Joseph H. Pilates?

Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in 1883 and passed away in 1967. As a child, he had some health challenges. However, through grit and determination, he became an accomplished athlete in body building, gymnastics, diving, and more. During WWI, while in a British encampment, Pilates developed a series of exercises that now bear his name. Prior to WW2, He emigrated from Germany to the US, declining to train the German Army. On the voyage to the United States he met his wife, Clara, and in 1926 they opened A contrology studio in NYC where his method captured the attention of many prominent people in dance and society. Pilates published two books, Your Health, in 1934, and his series of exercises in 1945, in Return to life through contrology.

He also went on to invent the Reformer, the Wunda Chair, the Cadillac and the Spine Corrector, ultimately filing 26 patents. In 1961, a photographer captured Joseph Pilates' exceptionally conditioned physique at the age of 78 in 1961 for an article in "Sports Illustrated." Today, his exercises have evolved through "the Elders" whom he trained and taught. We all now know his legacy as "Pilates" because of key people: 1.) Joan Breibart fought for and won the rights for everyone to know his foundational method by his name in 1995, and 2.) in 2000, Ken Endelman prevailed in his lawsuit, making "Pilates" a "generic" term denoting the thing itself rather than a brand.

Certified Instructor in The Method® Pilates

I think that there is a general need for health and wellness through discipline and fitness. We may not all look like supermodels, and our bodies come in a Beautiful variety of shapes and sizes. We can still be fit physically, mentally and emotionally by what we can control in this life, which isn’t much. Yet, what we can control yields much to be grateful for, to strive for, and to exemplify to others. I believe that the secret to youth doesn’t have to be found in a bottle, a needle, or a scalpel; the secret to youth is fundamentally in the freedom that comes from flexibility, mobility, and the shared joyous and challenging experiences that come from being able to participate in all the moments of this life.

Drawn to the shared principles of strength resistance exercises and the mindset and discipline of martial arts, I went all in with Pilates. For over 17 years, I've been practicing both classical and contemporary styles, ultimately culminating in achieving my Comprehensive Pilates Certification from The PhysicalMind Institute (PMI)*. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree, and some of my collegiate credits include coursework in Anatomy, Kinesiology, and Strength Resistance Training with Weights.

After completing 500+ comprehensive instructor hours, I was certified in The Method® by Master Trainer Jodi Melton of award-winning The Firm Body Pilates in Scottsdale, Arizona. She trained with Joan Breibart, a direct student of Joseph Pilates and co-founder of PMI. Jodi trains major professional athletes and professional coaches from NFL, MLB, NHL, PGA/LGPA and people across all levels of fitness and ages.

(*PhysicalMind Institute is not only the successor to the Institute of Pilates Method, it is also the original Pilates Certification program that was co-founded by Eve Gentry and Joan Breibart.)

My Pilates practice is also influenced by other impressive Pilates instructors whom I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to improve my practice by taking in-person sessions with them:
  • Privileged to have attended an in-person Workshop, Pilates for Athletes - “The Winning Formula” (proprietary) by Helen Stamatakos of Pilates Insync, Sydney, Australia - Helen is a Renown Pilates Instructor for Australian National Rugby League (NRL), Olympians, International Soccer and Cricket teams, and other Elite Australian Athletes. She's a Principal Trainer Membership Level of the Pilates Association Australia (PAA), Pilates ITC Educator, and graduate of Pilates Studio & Rehabilitation Method from Polestar

  • Master Trainer Nicole Baltes of award-winning CORE Pilates Prescott - Comprehensive Certified under renowN CORE Pilates NYC, she is a former a professional dancer in NYC, Chicago and internationally.

  • Master Trainer Caroline Londergan of award-winning White House Pilates - Caroline is mentored directly by Lolita San Miguel, a Joseph Pilates student, Caroline was the first Pilates instructor for The White House, the US Secret Service, and DC SWAT in Washington, D.C.
